Chances are, if you’re coming with me on this journey of no social media, you agree with my perspective or you respect my right to have one. OR you appreciate my passion for capturing your memories. Either way, thank you. This newsletter will be a monthly update on me, my clients, local vendors and ideas to keep us inspired! SO HERE WE GO! It’s no secret this year has been a disaster in so many ways. I don’t need to list them; we have all been equally effected. However, I stopped to consider how incredibly blessed we are to have had this year too. Bare with me. I know I sound like a crazy person. Focus. Zoom. Perspective. Those are things I often think about with photography. I am freezing moments and creating memories with all these factors. It’s my job to find creative ways to do that too. When everything just, stopped, it was like nothing we’d ever experienced before. At first, I was angry. Let’s be honest, I’m still angry. Wedding dates were dropping, businesses were closing, schools were shutting down, my daughter’s birthday trip was canceled, jobs were being lost...oh the list is endless. But, what has 2020 really been for us? A challenge.

A challenge of focus, a challenge to zoom in, and an ever-challenging perspective. We had time! When’s the last year you’ve been able to say that? We had time to put energy into things beside the “hustle and bustle.” Don’t get me wrong, it was still terrifying to not know if I’d be able to pay the bills, but I got creative with that and focused. It was alleviating to know we weren’t alone in that either.

The world had shut down. So why not step back? Would we ever get this chance again?

A year in review, and the lessons we should not forget.

When June came and things weren’t over, I was furious. It was beginning to project onto my family. I slowly started to go back to work. Fortunately, I have a LOT of like minded clients who began booking again. But that fear and stress was still there about all the uncertainties. When things started to get busy, I made more excuses for it again. This was the time I started to really zoom in on some tough realities. My usual routine is saying, “tomorrow”. It’s not a fun thing to admit, but there it is. Being busy was always a justification. And sometimes, it still is. But that summer, while I did remain busy, I remembered to pay more attention and reflect as well. I listened, I observed, and I was present more.

I’ve never bought into the fear of COVID-19, as you know, but in the beginning I decided to follow along. I had my opinions, but I stayed home and I canceled all my April shoots. (Which was A LOT) During this time, I made home movies with my kids, bought a lot of take out, slowed down, slept more, and educated myself on the things that were becoming increasingly harder to ignore. I spent more time with my family, and started to take care of myself too. Even through the uncertainty, and anger, having the hectic daily responsibilities outside of being a parent gone was a relief. We all know that there are basic factors of life that NEED our focus, and for me, I tend to make excuses for how much I work. But, just having this month taught me a lot of what we are capable of managing to do without. What the world was capable without. It was a month for discovery! Learning and deciding what we would WANT to let back into our lives when it was all over was truly exciting to think about. Everything had stopped, we had TIME. So it was up to us if we would just go back to the hustle and bustle, or learn from it and change our focus.

The amount of words Boston was reading, her cartwheel skills, and her ability to argue very intelligently was something I must have missed. Scotti’s fearlessness, and determination to reach a goal made her my little mini with her daddy’s smile. I hadn’t really noticed the time that was passing was taking my little girls with it. It is a hard pill to swallow to realize I was being a surface parent. Going through the motions and lying to myself about how they are too young to notice my absence. First of all, they notice everything. And second of all, I still need MY mom, so I needed to stop thinking that they would ever stop needing me and start showing up. So, I did. Even when it was hard. I laid with them at night when they needed me. I dropped what I was doing when they wanted someone to scratch their back, and I embraced sleepless nights with feet in my face because it was something I’d never get back. 2020 taught me that. It forced me to take responsibility. Let’s be clear. I’m not perfect. I learned and I grew, but not without mistakes. 2020 was ROUGH. There were no rainbows or sunshine unless you dug for them, and I still made mistakes. But I'm grateful for the lessons.

I didn’t stop my pursuits for knowledge and truths through all of this. I became diligent, active, and unapologetic when it comes to my values. I know who I am today, BECAUSE of last year. There are still plenty of things that I am bitter about, for sure. But having my eyes opened is not one of them. No matter what, our eyes were opened to something last year. Whatever you believe and wherever you stand, stand with love. First and foremost. We keep coming so very close to destroying each other for our different perspectives. We need to be reminded that we just ALL went through the same thing. Forced or not, manipulated or not, lied to or not, it happened. It’s done. No matter what year it is we all have a choice, and when you choose love, you always win.

BOOKING AND FAQ

The only way to book a session is by website, email, or phone! Danielle@danilaceyphotographs.com | 559.314.5925

RETAINERS/BALANCES All sessions require a 25% NF retainer. Retainers will be transferable regarding weather related issues only, or if rescheduling is at least 4 weeks prior to your session date. Dates open and booked during the same month require full NF payment upfront, however, if rescheduled I require a $100 retainer to secure another date. Balances are due on the 1st of each month per your scheduled session. Invoices will automatically debit the card on file.

CANCELATION/RESCHEDULE If you need to reschedule your session within the month of your date, I require a new retainer to be set. In addition to rescheduling fees, your session is still to be paid on your original payment timeline. Session cancelations made by clients will not be refunded. All payment plans will be set to autopay, and if cancelations are made within 48 hours of scheduled shoot you will still be required to fulfill balances. As long as balances are still paid you will be able to rebook a session in the future, however if problems arise or payments are not honored you will no longer be able to book a future session or refunded your retainer.

COVID 2020 was a weird year, but this year will not look anything like it. I will not be canceling, moving, or changing any pre-booked sessions events due to Covid related issues or mandates. I cannot control wedding venues and larger gatherings, but my mini session events and regular scheduled shoots will not be affected moving forward. Masks will never be required for anyone at or attending my shoots, however, I respect client comfort and reasonable requests (indoor shooting) will always honored!

PROPS/THEMES This year, themes and props will be minimal, for sanitation purpose, along with deciding to shop small moving forward. Those shops are a lot more expensive, but they fuel entrepreneurship and the community. My focus will be on interaction and experience, not the theme of a shoot or season!

PAYMENT PLANS You have the option to do monthly or bi-monthly payments for any sessions you pre book every quarter. You can also pay upfront or pay your retainer and balance at the required times. Once you set a date, you’ll be emailed a questionnaire about payment options so that I can send you the accurate proposal with your contract, invoice and payment plan of choice! All clients will be required to accept auto pay for any booking.
